Kim Wallace was one of the most likeable people I ever met. Kim was always cheerful and happy. I saw him around town town from time to time and he never changed. He was always happy and upbeat about life. Kim was my friend since kindergarten. Only the good die young as Billy Joel sings. I miss you good buddy.
Kim...you were in most of my classes at Washington and some at Chute. Everybody's friend, you even made the teachers laugh. We ran into each other in high school here and there, like we were still in 5th grade, smiles and hugs. I was so sad when my dear Beverly Bowie told me you had passed, I just couldn't imagine a vibrant spirit like you would ever leave this world. Thank you for being my friend, fond memories always.
"Now a cherished tradition, the cookout was inspired by the untimely death in 1992 of a much-loved Evanstonian, Kimbrince (Kim) Wallace.
His sister, Deborah (Debbie) Wallace said her brother found joy in front of the grill, bringing friends and family together for a barbecue. “We started an annual picnic in 1993 to honor his memory. It was called ‘Wallace Family and Friends,’” she told the RoundTable. The gatherings were held at Harbert Payne Park, near the Wallace family home."
Kim spoke thoughtfully and he always listened to what others had to say. He was proud of his accomplishments, despite a humble beginning. I remember during a Parents Day visit at Washington School, Kim's father, who at the time was a sanitation truck crew member for the City of Evanston, artfully explained to the class how garbage trucks compact the waste, and then what happens next. Kim sat at his desk beaming with pride. RIP.
I was very good friends with a Kim Wallace at Chute, is this the same Kim Wallace, African-American kid, the fastest kid at Chute, athletic star, Olympics material, on the track team killed everybody, also on the Chute soccer team ?
