I remember Les always wearing a big grin and having Libby Larson hanging on his arm, except of course when he was running In a course country or 800 yd race. Les, Bill Maloney, Jim Farquharson and I attempted to completed the southern Wisconsin bike trail (Kenosha to Eau Claire) during spring break of sophomore year. Wind, rain and bad knees (mine) prevented us from getting past New Glarus. Les and Bill managed to complete it before we graduated. Les never seemed to let obstacles stand in his way. He is one of many who will be sorely missed.
Les was the greatest guy. I think I would have been bored out of my mind without him in Junior year English. We continued our friendship into our college years and was sad that we lost touch after that. Searched for him and never found him.
I remember Libby as well. She was behind us in school and often came to NIU to visit Les. Her parents always thought she was staying with me.
Les was a great teammate (track & cross country) and a good friend in high school. We lost touch after college. About 10 years ago we reconnected via the phone. At that time, Les was married to Cindy and living in Virginia. He had three children, Colin (1983), Elliot (1984) and Cassie (1985). I was shocked to hear that he had passed.
