Laurie Anne Walker, 66, of Rogers Park, died in St. Francis Hospital in Evanston on May 11. Born in Elmhurst, Ms. Walker grew up In Evanston, where she starred in theatrical productions at Evanston High School. She attended Sarah Lawrence College and the University of Illinois, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in fine arts. She received a master’s in counseling psychology from Northwestern University, a teaching credential from National-Louis University, and post-graduate certification as an Atira Expressive Arts Practitioner. Laurie worked as a counselor and therapist in a variety of clinical settings, as office manager for the Public Interest Law Initiative, and as publications manager for the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago. A smart, funny, kind, and artistically gifted woman, she was the beloved mother of Colin, sister of Paul and Brian, sister-in-law of Marlene, aunt of Devin (Genie) and Dariel (Steven) and grandaunt of Zelda.

Laurie was.a warm, intelligent and extremely talented woman. It was a pleasure to share the stage with her and to know her in high school - though we fell out of touch after that. I was so sorry to hear that she had passed. She is missed!
