I met Josh in CS class, junior year. He was the kind of friend that changes your life, introducing me to a whole group of new friends, the hippies. I had been lonely before that and his friendship filled a big gap in my life. We stayed in touch ever since and always enjoyed a special rapport. I will miss his kindness, openess, and humor.
He worked hard. After a career in TV news and then advertising production, he ran a gourmet coffee business and had just opened a cafe on Long Island. We did not have the opportunity to visit it.
Josh had been on vacation with his family when he was suddenly taken ill. Though airvaced to NY, he quickly succumbed to the illness due to complications.
I'm sorry I did not know Joshua at ETHS. I see his coffee shop is about two miles from where I live, sorry I missed it and him https://www.yelp.com/biz/new-york-gourmet-coffee-mineola
Josh and I were close friends at ETHS, and then in Madison, where we shared an apartment for a couple of years. Josh was a wonderful person; big-hearted, passionate and always fun to be with. He had a totally bitchin’ Fiat Spider convertible that we loved to race around in when it was working, which was almost never. Many of you know that his mom Anny Heydemann taught CS at ETHS. She was by far the most wonderful teacher I had there. Josh’s house was a second home to me, and I felt a part of his family. I will miss him a lot.
I only knew Josh a little bit, and only when we were in high school. But I remember one time he helped organize a rally at Mason Park during school hours and needed extension cords for the sound system. I snuck out of school and went home and brought him some of those long orange ones. I am sorry to hear of his passing.
